Mizuyo is a Japanese ceramicist based in London. She uses a variety of techniques for her ceramic work, including carving with chisels – known as Kezuri in Japan. She also adds facets, known as Mentori, which can be done at almost any stage of making before firing, using different tools, wires or knives depending on the clay condition. To keep her ridges crisp, Mizuyo uses a cutter knife at the leather-hard stage, which she found in Tokyu Hands. Her inspiration comes from a wide range of archeological artefacts, everyday designed objects and the forms in nature.
This work is shown at Atelier Beside the Sea as part of the Pots, Prints and Jewellery exhibition.
