Course summary:

On this course the you will learn the process of carving and printing a lino cut, experimenting with colour and technique to create printed artworks.  The perfect course for a beginner over the three sessions you will work towards creating and developing your own designs and imagery through supportive discussions with Melissa.

Working from source materials the group will work on creating sketches and drawing to then transfer onto the Lino.  Melissa will demonstrate how to use a variety of cutting tools to create your print block to then ink up and print with.

These techniques are an excellent starting point and can easily be carried on at home.

Tutor biography

Melissa Birch is an artist and printmaker based in West Sussex.  Gaining her degree from Ruskin School of Fine Art, Melissa learned the traditional skills required to create her own artworks.

After a 20-year career as a secondary school teacher, Melissa has successfully established her own print studio, is stocked in a number of outlets and also regularly exhibits her work nationally.

All materials are provided by Atelier Beside the Sea, although you may wish to collect some visual reference materials and a sketchbook and pencil to make notes and sketch out ideas.
