The artwork is created from individual ink drawings, which I scan and digitally assemble as layers before adding colour. It draws on my interest in artists including Édouard Vuillard, Gwen John, Ben Nicholson and Louis Fratino. The work also reflects my experience of life drawing and my continuing interest in representing the human figure within its surroundings. Its visual language connects with Spanish Costumbrismo and traditions of depicting everyday life and local character. I created the artwork from individual ink drawings made on A3 specialised marker paper. I use calligraphic brushes, fine-line pens, sponges, sandpaper, watercolour, ink and charcoal to create the original elements. On the third day, a Thursday, I visited the Benaki Museum, located at the foot of the hill, taking advantage of its free entry after 6 p.m. As sunset approached, I began the climb towards the summit. From a distance, Lycabettus can appear steep and difficult to reach, but the ascent was surprisingly pleasant and manageable. Along the route, I noticed the vegetation growing across the rocky slopes, particularly prickly pear cactus and Agave americana, both flowering at the time.
