Being inspired by literature, folk tradition, as well as his experience of transness, Bertie often uses images of sphinxes, other mythic creatures and elements of repeated pattern. Bertie sees art-making as a vessel of devotion to non-traditional theology, and invests in the possibility of chance and the unexpected in his work. This forces a surrender to the medium, in a way that is always interesting visually and intellectually. For this reason, Bertie often uses unpredictable art mediums, like watered down oil paint and white spirit, inks, monotypes and ceramics. Bertie connects these mediums in so-called 'Hybridised Outcomes', which joins different materials and concepts in the pursuit of storytelling and reverance of the art-making process. Bertie is currently studying his BA in Fine Art Painting at The University of Brighton, and will graduate next summer.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Bertie Kingdom","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":55614271062392,"sku":"26AO22","price":360.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0016\/8014\/6476\/files\/BertieKingdom-untitledsphinx.png?v=1784809976","url":"https:\/\/atelierbrighton.co.uk\/products\/26ao22","provider":"Atelier Beside the Sea","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
