by Rachel Larkins.
Large articulated owl, jumping jack.
Hand drawn, painted and carved wooden owl jumping jack. The articulated wings flap and make a satisfying noise when you pull the linen thread.
Rachel is drawn to objects which are considered precious and ephemeral; mourning jewellery holding hair; bell jars holding birds, insects or naive dolls; dioramas and ships in bottles. The pieces she makes are influenced by the intimacy and hidden stories of small scale miniatures as well as by folklore and fairy tales.
This work is shown at Atelier Beside the Sea in the exhibition, Fairy Tale.
