This fun workshop will introduce students to one of the earliest printing processes. Cyanotype is a cameral-ess photographic printing process invented in 1842 by scientist and astronomer Sir John Hirschel, which produces a cyan-blue print when a chemical-coated surface is exposed to sunlight.
You will learn how to create your own cyanotypes, experimenting with the process in a variety of ways to produce beautifully blue and unique prints exposed by sunlight. The day will begin by heading out to the beach to find interesting objects to make images out of.
All materials will be provided. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own objects with them on the day, or provide a digital image in advance which will be made into a negative to print. Advice will be provided on suitable objects and images.
This course requires an element of outdoor work, due to the need of UV light. In the event of adverse weather conditions, the course will take place on Friday 9th September 2pm to 5pm.
