This evening silver bangle making course is a great introduction to jewellery making and suits those who would like to explore an interest in jewellery making.
You will learn basic jewellery making techniques such as cutting metal, soldering and polishing to make a silver bangle.
Laila will demonstrate each technique involved, supporting each student in learning and developing their skills when making their bangle. The silver for the course will be provided, as is a quantity of copper wire and sheet to practice and mock-up your ideas before committing to the final make in silver.
During this exciting and informative course, you will learn:
- Planning, measuring and cutting metal.
- Shaping, forming and bending metal.
- How to solder copper and silver.
- How to accurately size a bangle.
- Filing and shaping metal.
- Finishing and polishing silver.
Students do not need to bring anything to this course, but we do ask that health and safety is observed; please bring something to tie back long hair and wear flat shoes that fully cover your feet (no sandals or high-heels).

Laila Smith is a jeweller based on the south coast of England. She designs and makes simple, elegant jewellery using geometric forms that are crisp and beautifully crafted. The work is made in solid silver with gold vermeil accents as well as a range of 18ct gold and silver rings and currently details an obsession with geometry.
She has had jewellery studios in London, Birmingham and Brighton where she currently works. After graduation in 1996 Laila took a place on a jewellery fellowship in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. She has shown in many galleries and shops throughout the UK and most recently was shortlisted for the international New Traditional Jewellery Prize with her entry piece being shown in a number of European galleries.

What to bring with you:
All materials are provided by Atelier Beside the Sea, although you may wish to collect some visual reference materials and a sketchbook and pencil to make notes and sketch out ideas.
