Jay Caskie’s work is inspired by the rugged Canadian landscapes of his childhood and the Cornish coastline where he lives now. He is drawn to imagery of solitary houses and figures in wide open landscapes. Using this imagery he explores themes of home and belonging. He creates narrative work that provokes feelings of peace and tranquility in the viewer as well as a sense of loneliness and isolation at the same time. Fascinated by the repetitive and meditative processes of printmaking, he primarily works in linocut and wood engraving. Jay currently lives in a small town by the sea in Cornwall, UK. He grew up in Vancouver, Canada and then moved east to Halifax to study fine arts. He graduated in 2019 with a BFA from NSCAD University.
