About the artist:
Marie Sahy is a visual artist from Vevey, Switzerland. She studied for a BA in Fine Art at the édhéa, in Sierre (CH). In 2022, she graduated with a MA in Fine Art from the University of Brighton. Her work is a dance between nostalgia and the present day. She explores such themes as power dynamics in the private sphere and how social constructs influence personal identity. Using mediums such as drawing and painting, she takes inspiration from personal life, dusty trinkets in museums and graphic novels. In this work, she explores the myth of the artist: Why do we need geniuses, and how are they created? What narratives do we choose to tell about them—and what do those stories emphasise? Marie is particularly interested in how these myths have influenced her own creative process, shaping both her ambition and her expectations in the past. At the heart of the work is a desire to deconstruct this romanticised, often outdated image of the artist in order to evolve alongside her practice.
