Carla Edwards’ inspiration comes from a love of drawing, pattern, colour and print, with a particular interest in flora and fauna. She works mostly with resin and recycled silver to design and make colourful, tactile jewellery. Her work is characterised by simple organic forms with sgraffito surface details. She uses embedding and layering techniques to create arrangements of small shapes within a larger piece. Using a blend of translucent and opaque pigments, hand mixed and layered in small quantities, makes each piece unique. She treats the material as precious, and try to waste nothing. The recent speckle collection has been developed to use up scraps from the workshop. After studying Jewellery and Silversmithing at ECA 1993 – 98, Carla set up a workshop to make limited edition collections and undertake commissions. She exhibits internationally and enjoys working with clients to create one of a kind pieces and bespoke colours. Carla relishes playing with both materials and design and not always knowing how things are going to turn out. She thinks it is a useful skill to be ok with that.
