Caris is a mixed media collage artist transforming the abandoned, unloved, and discarded into richly layered artworks infused with narrative, history and drama. Using reclaimed and repurposed vintage papers, fabrics, and objects - materials marked by time, use and imperfection - she creates opulent, theatrical compositions inspired by iconic performers and folklore in a playful homage to the grand spectacle of the Showperson.
Each piece emerges as a visual story, shaped by a lifelong fascination with the theatrical born from childhood memories and the joy of being immersed in an otherworld of velvet curtains and flocked wallpaper, with a deep curiosity about what lies behind the scenes. Caris's maximalist aesthetic draws from a range of influences: vintage magician’s posters, elaborate costumes, mythology and Masters of Spectacle .
