About the artist:
Sussex based textile artist Susie Koren hand stitches, prints and paints using natural earth pigments on cloth, her inspiration drawn from the muted palette of northern coastal landscapes, the changing light and blurred horizontal line as the sea merges with the vastness of the sky. It is the light atmosphere and emptiness she strives to capture. Walking is fundamental to her creativity, witnessing the effects of changing weather patterns, the rising global tide, consequential storm surges and erosion of our fragile coastal horizons. Her observations, recordings of colour, texture and lines manifest themselves in the narrative of her abstract textile artwork. Building up layers blending ground earth pigments in her homemade soya milk binder, the mediative hand stitching becomes a metaphor for the repetitive rhythms of nature that forms texture and undulations like you find on the earth’s surface.
