About the artist:
Hannah Pugh is a Birmingham based painter, with a background in fine arts from Falmouth. Hannah paints speculative worlds that pay tribute to both her physical psychological experience of the landscape. Instinctive mark making, controlled layering, coupled with the unpredictable flow of her favoured mediums - ink &bleach, come together creating emotive scapes balanced in the liminal space between eerie & whimsy. ‘Loam’ i & ii form part of a collection in collaboration with my 5 year old son Sylvan, the rocks that he collects &brings back for me are imbued with story & meaning - a dinosaur tooth, a tool, a key - he treats his precious finds with such reverence that I started to draw parallels between them and the great standing stones placed around our landscape. These rocks contain magic that is just as powerful, they are Doors to his Elsewhere, they have been chosen with care, transported with purpose & continue to tell their tales throughout my home.’
