”An abstract digital flower created from a domestic iron, this work transforms a symbol of routine labour into a blooming, surreal form. The iron’s rigid geometry unfolds into soft, petal-like shapes, merging the mechanical with the organic. Echoing themes of femininity and domesticity, the piece challenges perceptions of everyday objects, inviting viewers to find unexpected beauty and power in the tools of unseen labour.”

About the artist:
Louise Richards is a London-based visual artist working across photography, digital print, monoprint, and video installation. Her practice explores themes of domesticity, gendered labour, and inequality through surreal, vibrant imagery. She is currently pursuing a Professional Doctorate in Fine Art at the University of East London and holds an MA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins (2021). Her work has been exhibited at Winns Gallery, Askew Gallery, and featured in Haus-a-Rest's student showcase. Her digital artworks magnify and abstract everyday domestic items, transforming the familiar into the surreal. Using vivid colour and pop art references, she interrogates overlooked rituals of domestic life, often coded as feminine and undervalued. Through still and moving images, including works like Ironing and Water Torture, she explores how gendered labour persists in private spaces, inviting viewers to see domestic objects as active symbols of identity, work, and inequality.
