Course summary:
Come celebrate the spirit of Christmas and indulge your senses in a visual and sensory feast. A sumptuous still life of festive favourites will be set up in the space for you to work from, lit by candles that will glow with light and enliven the shadows as the daylight outside comes and goes. We will start the workshop with guided meditation and practical warm ups (including eating a mince pie or two), working from observation as well as by taste and touch, getting to know the subject, processes and materials.
We will be drawing in the unlit arch of the studio, by candlelight only - a very exciting, liberating experience, allowing you to be totally immersed in the process; objects lit by flickering candles, shapes shifting, sparkling reflections and shadows forming dark ambiguous spaces in between.
We will be working quickly with ink and wax resist, a peaceful 3 hours drawing with brush, ink and watercolour - creating fun playful compositions that you can easily take away and use as unique Christmas cards and gifts for friends and loved ones.
At the end of the workshop we join together again in the light to share our work, our thoughts, and a warming cup of tea/mince pie/mulled wine/soup……
