Continuous no closure necklace. Engraved by Ruth Anthony.
”I initially received a ring, very special, precious and personal, made by Tanvi [Kant]. I didn't use the ring, but used Tanvi's writing, beginning with 'Many in the one' referencing significant connections through her life. I stitched it all into a necklace, as a loop symbolising the circularity of life. I quickly developed a huge respect for stitch artists.”
Materials: Silver, silk, sequins, beads and horse hair.
Necklace length: 79 cm.
After many years exhibiting nationally and internationally, Syann van Niftrik has withdrawn to the New Forest where she has lived and worked since 1990. Her interest lies is in the possibilities inherent in the material and the making process. She consciously keeps the methods simple in order to leave room for elements of her subconscious, and the response of the viewer, to take hold. Favoured technique of forging, sometimes linking smaller elements to create articulated pieces, using silver, gold and copper alloys.
