Screenprint.
”We spent a lazy afternoon by a lake watching the wildlife this summer. We saw lots of Moorhens scuttling across the lily pads. I love their enormous, spidery feet! Working from the photos we took and sketches I made, I created detailed artwork which I transferred on to a silkscreen. Each colour on the final print required different screen and artwork to be prepared. I then hand-printed a small edition of 12.”
Dimensions: 31 x 38 cm (framed).
About the artist:
I’m an artist-printmaker based in the London area. I studied BA Printmaking at WSCAD, taking it up again recently after attending a part-time course. My screenprints reflect my penchant for vibrant colour plus a passion for wildlife and our natural world. As children we were encouraged by our Scottish grandad to appreciate nature and he taught us the names of the flora and fauna we saw. I still enjoy long walks – these days I’m on the lookout for potential subjects for my next print! My aim is to portray the quirky characteristics of the creatures I’ve been so lucky to encounter. Working from my own photos and sketches as reference, I create detailed artwork which is then transferred onto a silkscreen to create stencils. I use this method to hand-print all my images at a local college. I’ve shown my screenprints at Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition, Wildlife Artist of the Year and Chelsea Arts Society amongst others.
