About the artist:
Based near the East Sussex and Kent border, the Custard Factory was created to make works of art that produce smiles and positive vibes. Inspiration is taken from a range of our cultural symbols, often with a twist. Look for how the ancient gargoyles smile away evil spirits instead of scaring them. Other pieces take simple symbols that have positive meanings and rethinks them in a fresh way that celebrates both shape and colour. Porcelain is used for the body of works as it has a delicate, tactile beauty and an outstanding ability to make colour applied to it sing. Porcelain is also used because during the making process it must be cared for or it will easily crack and this means if it survives the creation process it has soul and was meant to be. All pieces are individually hand built and the traditional Japanese Mishima technique is used to inlay coloured porcelain to create the clean lines of the positive symbols.
