Linocut reduction print.
”Inspired by the pioneering and often forgotten female racecar drivers of the early and mid twentieth century, this is a five layer reduction print. The process of creating a reduction print means that as each layer is hand-carved and printed, more of the lino block is carved away, ensuring that no more prints can be made after this edition of 17.”
Dimensions: 42 x 59.4 cm (framed).
About the artist:
Kate Gerrard is a printmaker based in Hove, specialising in relief printmaking with a focus on linocut. Her work pushes the boundaries of this traditional medium to explore bold graphic design and expressive portraiture. Influenced by Pop Art, Bauhaus, and the stylized aesthetics of mid-century art and design, Kate creates striking images that celebrate strength and individuality. Her subjects are often strong, determined women, portrayed with a sense of power and presence reminiscent of mid-century propaganda posters. Kate marries this modern aesthetic with traditional craftmanship. Each piece is meticulously hand-carved onto blocks of Japanese vinyl and inked with rich, oil-based inks. She then prints each work by hand, ensuring that no two prints are exactly alike. Kate’s work is a vibrant, modern take on a historic process - bold, empowering, and joyful.
