About the artist:
Studying at Dartington College of Arts in Devon, close to the meandering River Dart, began a connection with journeys and how they are prepared for; harking back to a nomadic heritage. As a member of the Guild of Spinners, Weavers and Dyers, this has been a training ground for Jennifer, learning how to hand spin yarn from sheep fleece, as well as exploring the skills and complexities of hand weaving. The handwoven hills and mountains are conjured landscapes from the warp of the loom. There are patterns from old travelling blankets - the edge of the weaving is irregular, like a fragment of cloth, of which this is the part that survived. Picking and looping stitches stumble across the width of the piece. The naive style contrasts in its nod to an old master in its epic nature. Weaving the story of a journey through an untamed landscape, the woven cloth holds the memories of the difficulties, triumphs and happiness of a journey.
