About the artist:
Chanchala is a Sri Lankan-born artist living and working in Brighton. Her focus is colour with the intention of expressing emotions and ideas through colour and mark making. Her colours are vibrant, mostly intense, sometimes subtle. She has a particular interest in the interplay between translucency and opacity, light and dark, veils of colour interacting with others. Her most recent series "Colour Fields and Dusk" is further inspired from her taking up running along the seafront at sunset. Chanchala works mainly in acrylics, but incorporates oil and mixed media when the artwork calls for it. She starts methodically with a lengthy process of gathering inspiration, followed by studies on paper. She finishes with a relatively quick "expression" on her final work - necessarily fast to convey feeling and emotion while avoiding excessive analysis.
