About the artist:
My art is an autobiographical expression of emotion, mental health, and the daily realities of living with bipolar and borderline personality disorder. I draw what I feel, haunting thoughts, overwhelming emotions—making my inner world visible to show the daily struggles with the hope to find connection and community. My mark-making shifts as I navigate different mental states: nature and organic forms, especially trees that I've connected with, symbolize processed emotions; while angular, constructed marks using old and used postcards like postcards and biro represent intrusive thoughts or attempts to silence my inner critic. I work on both styles in tandem. Influences such as Van Gogh, whose resilience inspired me to accept my diagnoses, and Dali, with his exploration of the subconscious, guide my practice. Contemporary artist Marco Mazzoni also inspires me through his emotive use of nature and composition—tools I use to communicate what words often cannot.
