About the artist:
I am a designer, working in metal, making silver jewellery, and artworks from my barn studio in West Sussex. My work reflects the simple rhythms and shapes found in nature and is inspired by the local land and seascapes. I make metal wire sculptural pieces, woven in copper and steel wire and nestled on Teak wooden 'platforms' sculpted to support their shape. The ‘Nests’ are shapes designed to nurture – suggesting the possibility of creatures making their home inside the gentle protective forms. The weaving process is calming and repetitive. The form slowly finds its way, as you wind the wire around and it starts to take shape. We are free to imagine what creature might inhabit each of the nests and where they would be situated… I completed a BA Hons in 3D design and I have worked in many fields of the design industry. I love the simplicity of Scandinavian design and also the Arts and Crafts movement and their interpretation of nature in design.
