About the artist:
Rose Grover is an illustrator from Hove who loves to paint from life. When Rose is looking for a subject, she is drawn to people, interesting light and shadow, and opportunity to experiment with colour and materials. She works under self imposed structures, such as a time limit, or limited materials, painting directly into her sketchbook to reduce any pressure of perfectionism. These limitations not only ensure her marks stay fresh and full of life but also feed into one another physically, creating unexpected marks and a sense of history and wholeness between paintings. These paintings are from a series painted in Brunswick Square in Hove on Rose's lunch breaks from work as a bookseller and illustrator. She uses these opportunities for free expression and experimentation which contrast from strict commissions and retail work. Each painting was created in under 30 minutes using water soluble crayons, acrylic ink, and occasionally Posca paint pens and Ecoline marker pens.
