by Cally Conway.
Original one colour linocut print on Somerset black velvet paper.
"Titled 'Wintering' this print was drawn and designed on the winter solstice on the shortest day of the year. I drew directly onto the linoblock, and sketched out a hellebore and different fern varieties-all plants that I associate with winter. The ferns twist and curve, dancing upwards towards the light."
This is a variable edition which means there are a few different colour combinations of this print. The copper is metallic so shines in ambient light.
Image size: 20 x 31 cm.
Paper size: 25 x 36.5 cm.
Variable edition of 50, numbered, signed and dated with 'E.V.' (meaning edition variable).
A lover of the natural world, Cally's prints are inspired by nature and folklore. She is based in London, but is constantly drawn to the beauty of nature and its place within the world. She began producing etchings and collagraphs at art college, and came to linocut printmaking much later. She really fell in love with the process of linocut; something about the carved line as a way to translate her sketches, and to explore pattern and texture.
