Kate Iles is primarily a collector of discarded things.. old keys, small tins, tiny treasures. Behind the magpie-esque selection process is the need to preserve..to salvage and save. These items are re-homed in small, lit dioramas but more recently worked into 3D collages. There is an immediacy working with collage that allows a building of layers, textures..weaving in snippets of these found ephemeral items to create new stories.
Kate Studied two dimensional design at St Albans and has worked as an interior designer and picture framer before becoming a full time artist fifteen years ago.
