Maker info: John Parkinson, better known as Parky, first moved to Brighton over a decade ago to study illustration. He now balances his time between commercial screen printing and tattooing. His work is driven by a desire to engage with analogue processes, and to get his hands physically involved with the materials, creating original prints without computer intervention. The works submitted are a mix of lino prints and silk screen. He uses a scalpel to cut both the blocks and the paper cuts used in the silk screen prints. His recent artworks explore a graphic quality in shape and line, quite different from that achieved through conventional drawing implements. Thematically his work involves a take on traditional western tattoo designs, environmental concerns, eccentric characters..... and frogs!
