About the artist: With my etchings and lithographs I aim to ‘show’ rather than tell a story and inspire the viewer to find their own imaginative narrative in my work. I find new ideas for prints by daily drawing and watercolour painting, and by experimenting with printmaking materials and techniques. Sometimes images literally emerge from an experiment allowing me to divert from my original idea for a print. My main inspiration comes from observing landscapes. Even my more abstract work is often structured like a landscape. Coastlines, the sea and the Downs are mesmerising to me and have inspired many of my prints. Often it is the combination of my imagination, drawing and observing that creates a new idea. The process of making the print allows me to experiment and push the idea to a visual conclusion. My images are not an accurate representation but more of an expression of a significant element of a landmark or an event that inspired it.
