Lottie with anemones and asphodel

Original charcoal drawing of Lottie, the artist's cat, who passed away at the age of 24. This was drawn after Lottie died, and the inclusion of anemones and asphodel are symbolic: anemones are associated with love and protection; asphodel is associated with mourning. Not suitable to hang in bright sunlight.

Charcoal on cartridge paper.

Clare Parfree-Mitchell lives and works in West Sussex. She was awarded a Distinction for her MA in Fine Art, from the Open College of the Arts/University of the Creative Arts. Her work has been included in UK based exhibitions and is held in private collections in the UK. In addition to her art practice, she has taught art at a Secondary school, to home schooled students, and currently teaches art to adults. She also works with animals as a pet sitter and dog walker. Clare’s main art practice is drawing, and her work usually includes animals, either centrally, as with these two pieces, or within a wider scene. Lottie is the artist’s cat, who passed away at the age of 24, making these drawings particularly poignant and meaningful.
