A victorious tabby cat keeps a watchful eye over his hard-won territory. This is a portrait of one of my beloved cats, made after he died. The process of creating this piece was an emotional experience, but also a joyful way to remember him. Created using free motion embroidery, lace, dupion, jacquard and cotton fabrics for colour and texture. When displaying textile art, avoid prolonged direct sunlight, damp or humid conditions, and sources of heat.
Free motion embroidery textile art using thread and various textiles.
Dimensions: 30 x 35 cm (framed) cm.
Fiona Scutcher is a mixed media textile artist, originally from Eastbourne and now based in Oxfordshire. Drawing is at the heart of her work, and she is known for intricate pencil drawings as well as colourful free motion embroidery textile art, where she uses her sewing machine to draw, transforming vintage textiles and embellishments into treasured art. She's particularly fascinated by animals, and capturing the individuality of each creature. A big part of her process involves observing how the animals interact with their environment, and making sketches and videos to work from in her studio. Her textile art is inspired by bright colours and combining patterns and textures in fun and interesting ways. Brighton's bold, colourful arts scene had a big influence on her practice growing up, and she's really pleased to be exhibiting her work in the city. Fiona's work is regularly exhibited across Oxfordshire, and is held in private collections in the UK and internationally.
