The image is about my cats watching me sew. I used to make and re-make clothes and make patchwork quilts, so this is an image of my younger self. Cats are fascinated by sewing and all my cats like to get my sewing basket, investigate my sewing machine and watch me mend or alter clothes.
Pen and wash on acid free watercolour paper.
Dimensions: 31 x 41 cm.
Kate Montgomery was born in 1965 and trained at The Ruskin School of Drawing & Fine Art, Oxford University (1985 – 1988) and at The Royal College of Art (1990 – 1992). She was brought up with cats and is currently a servant to two lady tabby cats in her household in Brighton and would prefer to have many more. Their companionship is essential to her creative activity she thinks – remembering the many writers, poets and painters who lived with cats – Henri Matisse, Elizabeth Bishop etc………..well that's the excuse!
