Flatback inspired ceramic in Staffordshire glazes man from a work that had once featured Bonny Prince Charlie. It is different from other pieces Rose is showing in that it is slip cast from an original modified/remodelled flatback to make two women. It is Earthenware with 'Sunderland Lustre".
Rose has lived in Oxford for nearly forty years. Involved in ceramics since 1998, she graduated with a first-class B.A. in 2008. Since 2017, she has run pottery courses for Abingdon & Witney College in addition to independent workshops.
Using a traditional press-moulding technique allows for casts of discarded ephemera additions on its broken arm, creating a new narrative. The bases are cast from vintage chocolate moulds and contemporary plastic packaging. These flatbacks are made from traditional Creamware ceramic with a third firing of real gold lustre.
A selection of Rose's work is on show as part of Orna-Mantle-Pieces, a Staffordshire Pottery inspired show.
