From his project “Opposites Attract” this piece explored how different depths and textures can be created through using the same layering but opposite orders of colour. The work was made by hand painting a silk screen stencil, reducing the forms in the open mesh for each layer, and using a spectrum of shades of blue, working from light to dark on the left and dark to light on the right. The dark final forms created to produce a balance and linked interplay between the two pannels.

About the artist:
J.D Parkinson is a Brighton based printmaker, illustrator and tattooist. His recent body of work explores bold colourful graphic abstraction. Wanting to develop a deeper and more nuanced understanding of colour, J D Parkinson has found particular resonances with the work of Joseph Albers. The philosophy that art is concerned not about the why, but the how, rings true to his practice. For Parkinson following a process down a route of exploration, to experience the results as the maker is the driving motivation to create, but also to continue to create and explore more possibilities. Through different screen printing methods as well as other printmaking processes, Parkinson is interested in using spontaneous methods of working such as paper cut masked stencilling and mono-printing techniques to create unexpected outcomes, un-achievable in conventional media and modes of working.
