This collagraph, made using mount board and chine collé on Hahnemühle paper, was inspired by a statue Annie photographed in Tokyo, one of Japan’s first public sculptures depicting nude women in the post-war period. By removing the visual noise of its surroundings, the work becomes quieter and more reflective, exploring themes of female connection, resilience and visibility. Framed in oak and recently exhibited at the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers International Original Print Exhibition.

Collagraph print on Hahnemuhle 300g Etching paper with oil based ink.

Dimensions: 56 x 46.5 cm.

About the artist:
Working from North Star Studio in Brighton, Annie Jean creates prints mainly exploring the connection between the female body and the natural world. Focussed on etching, her practice embraces texture, unpredictability and process, allowing work to evolve through chance, repetition and intervention. Her work is inspired by landscapes, memory and the experience of inhabiting a female body, exploring themes of intimacy, transformation and ecofeminism. Annie discovered printmaking at college in West Sussex, continuing to develop her practice through later study and graduate work. In 2021, she was awarded a scholarship to study at Il Bisonte in Florence, where intensive training in traditional printmaking techniques deepened both her technical approach and relationship to the medium. Drawn to experimentation, she works with layered surfaces, hand-drawn marks and the uncontrolled reactions within etching itself, treating printmaking as an ongoing process of testing, reworking and discovery
