About the artist:
Kara Simpson is a digital artist who lives and works in London. Beginning with pencil sketches or intuitive drawing on an iPad using Procreate, her layered digital compositions are completed in Photoshop and produced as limited edition archival prints. Her illustrative work explores the emotional and biological forces that shape human behaviour. Through playful, surreal imagery, she examines pleasure-seeking, escapism, nostalgia, and the ways patterns formed in childhood continue into adult life.Drawing from pop culture, consumer environments, toys, animation, and sugary aesthetics, Simpson explores the blurred boundary between childhood play and adult hedonism. Her work reflects on how desires for comfort, fantasy, stimulation, and reward can evolve into compulsive behaviours, while questioning ideas of innocence, excess, and emotional coping through immersive, otherworldly narratives.
