The characters are taking part in a village fete, when you put on your sunday best and wait to be asked to dance. The technique involves using raw pigments ground to a paste then mixed in with an egg yolk emulsion which dries very quickly and allows for transparent layers of bright colours to build upon. The painting order is also in reverse, starting with the lightest layers first then building up gradually to the darkest tint.The frames are made from reclaimed wood by local framers.

About the artist:
Kiki grew up in communist Bucharest, Romania, in a household full of books and art, and after the 1989 revolution her.parents enrolled her into art school aged 9, where she studied two days a week fine arts. Although living in Brighton for 20 years now, she is still influenced by Romanian artists and traditions, changing subjects, styles and mediums like people change socks.
