Brighton Belle

Inspired by the colours and style of the 1950's, this water skier is embroidered on top of a vintage map of the time. The threads are pulled out behind her to create a sense of movement and speed and loose threads create the wake of the skis as she cruises along the Sussex coast!

About the artist:
Louise is a textile and mixed media artist based just outside Brighton. She is inspired by people and places with a story to tell which she expresses through embroidery - leaving threads hanging to add movement, texture and an expression. She is especially interested in women’s journeys through life, from maiden to mother to empowering menopause and beyond. She also loves the nostalgia of 1950’s beach life with its colours, fashion and sense of fun using threads to add a contemporary twist. Louise is also working on a range of folk and fairytale-inspired embroideries.
