Colourful, abstract forms, almost like clouds, puff and flow through different areas, and wrap around the thick edges of the canvas as well. Points of texture and fiercer colour gather in clustered dots in some areas, but flow out in carefree brushes of loose motion in others. A rustic would and neatly folded fabric pinched by nails can also be seen along the side edges.

Oil and alcohol ink on canvas.

Dimensions: 31.5 x 24.5 x 7.5 cm.

About the artist:
Bertie Kingdom is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brighton, who explored storytelling and myth through his artworks. Being inspired by literature, folk tradition, as well as his experience of transness, Bertie often uses images of sphinxes, other mythic creatures and elements of repeated pattern. Bertie sees art-making as a vessel of devotion to non-traditional theology, and invests in the possibility of chance and the unexpected in his work. This forces a surrender to the medium, in a way that is always interesting visually and intellectually. For this reason, Bertie often uses unpredictable art mediums, like watered down oil paint and white spirit, inks, monotypes and ceramics. Bertie connects these mediums in so-called 'Hybridised Outcomes', which joins different materials and concepts in the pursuit of storytelling and reverance of the art-making process. Bertie is currently studying his BA in Fine Art Painting at The University of Brighton, and will graduate next summer.
