About the artist:
Madeleine King is a rising artist based in Brighton and Hove, creating from her studio in the centre of Brighton’s North Laine. Atmospheric and expressive, Madeleine’s work explores themes of distraction and distortion. Her focus lies in transforming flowers—pushing them toward abstraction until they are almost unrecognizable. This approach often stems from painting from still life setups or painting Plein Air. She prefers wood panels, combining acrylic with oil pastels to build a soft, dreamlike quality. More recently, her practice has expanded into mono printing. Flowers remain at the core of Madeleine’s work, with an emphasis on seasonal variation. At present, she is particularly drawn to magnolias, tulips, and blossom.
