About the artist:
Melanie Smith is an artist and illustrator based in Brighton. Much of her work is focussed on storytelling. The work she creates, using a variety of printmaking techniques, explores storytelling as a means of self exploration. Focussing on stories that are inside us and the stories we experience in the world. Capturing those stories and allowing them the space to be drawn out onto the page. Stories and characters interweave and intermingle to create a constant yet shifting sense of who we are. The unpredictability of printmaking allows for the process to be as much a part of the final outcome as the intention. Melanie has been working as an artist and illustrator for the past fourteen years. Much of her illustration work has been commissioned by museums, galleries and NHS hospital trusts. Her work is on permanent display at the Royal Sussex Hospital, St Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals in London, St Luke’s Hospital in Bradford and Leighton Hospital in Crewe.
