About the artist:
Bessie Millar studied to postgraduate level at Edinburgh College of Art and has worked as a designer and artist throughout her career. Working predominantly in oil paint from her studio in Hove she creates original paintings and commissions alongside limited edition print collections. Her paintings begin with drawings and memories gathered through direct observation. A love of colour, pattern, and expressive, juicy brushstrokes lies at the heart of her practice. Her recent series exploring fish has become a particular obsession much to the delight of her pet cat, Simba. Bessie’s work is held in numerous private collections, and she has exhibited widely in both public and commercial galleries, including the Mall Galleries, The V&A and she currently has a piece in The Open Odyssey at Hastings Contemporary.
