Bon Voyage

Bon Voyage features the two Italian ships that took my parents to Australia and brought the family back to Blighty. MV Fairsea and MV Fairsky are hand-sculpted and cast in pewter with the ship's signal flags painted in enamel spelling out Bon Voyage.

Pewter and enamel on steel.

About the artist:
Nick's assemblages and sculptures are inspired by family evenings spent viewing photographic slides projected on to the living room wall. Images of exotic travel to far-flung places, namely his birthplace of Perth, Australia, where his parents emigrated to by ship as part of the £10 assisted passage during the 1960s. "Bon Voyage" features the ship Fairsea on which his parents sailed to Australia, and the Fairsky, the ship that returned the family to Southampton. His assemblages combine hand-made cast pewter with painted enamel and found objects.
