Huath

From a limited edion of 100, a linocut print depicting hawthorn blossom growing entwined around a human hand. 'Huath' is a letter from the early Irish Ogham alphabet that is also associated with the Hawthorn. It holds a long history in Irish folklore, and is known as the Fairy Tree, a gateway from this to the Otherworld. It is considered a sacred and potent herb, known for its ability to calm the mind and heal the spirit.

About the artist:
Cally Conway is a London based printmaker, working predominately in the medium of linocut and print collage. Her work focusses on themes such as folklore, nature, and myths, and the symbolism contained within flora and fauna. She is drawn to celestial events and their interpretation in ancient cultures, along with mysterious and medieval texts such as herbals and illuminated manuscripts. Cally’s work ranges from personal print projects to fabric and wallpaper designs, and book cover illustrations. She has a keen interest in traditional crafts and the applied arts such as tapestry and historical costume embroidery. These influences underpin her image making and use of pattern and detail in her linocuts.
