About the artist:
This piece has been entirely inspired by living in Brighton and Hove. Ross, has lived 'beside the sea' his whole life and feels that this piece sums it up - particularly reflecting on the colours which represent the day-to-day 'furniture' of Brighton and Hove. It is created with 23ct gold leaf, abalone shell and enamel paint - all hand painted in reverse on the glass itself. The gold leaf is applied using the Victorian technique of water gilding, which when applied to glass correctly, creates a beautiful mirror like finish. This is then painted in reverse to 'set' it to the glass. The whole piece is hand painted with no stencils or masking tape - which will present the odd imperfection here and there - but that's what Brighton is about isn't it? And that's why we love it here.
