About the artist:
SarahB has treadle sewn these free-stitched embroidered pieces on her vintage sewing machine. In 2021 Sarah's love of this technique prompted her to devise a way of creating sewn latticeworks and consequently their (light-dependent) cast shadows inside box frames. She calls this work 'Stitched Shadow Art'. Sarah likes the challenges textile techniques and materials present to the artist and regularly questions how natural fibres, eco-cloth and woven & tangled threads can hold together successfully in a piece. These are her first embroideries where colour is incorporated through her choice of cotton threads and where she's embraced a freer approach to representation. Sarah lives in Falmouth. She describes herself as a conscience-led creative attempting to tread as lightly as possible on our planet.
