I painted Commune over a whole year. That year I was thinking a lot about family relationships and how very different personalities make connection.

About the artist:
Snowden Flood is a mixed media artist who works intuitively, exploring her deep connection to nature through vibrant colour, pattern, and bold graphic shapes. Her palette reflects mood, atmosphere, and emotion. She favours gouache for its rich matte finish, often combining acrylic, pastels, coloured pencils, hand-cut cardboard, and laser-cut wood. Recently, Snowden has focused on imagined landscapes and impossible botanical forms. These otherworldly creations express emotional extremes—conflict, hope, anguish, joy, despair—through their relationships with each other and their environments. The process is both intuitive and somatic, closely tied to her work as a counselling psychotherapist, serving as an outlet for processing the sensory impact of that work within her body. Through shape, colour, texture, and pattern, Snowden intends her pieces to connect viewers to emotions like love, growth, warmth, hope, joy, connection, peace, vitality, tranquillity, curiosity, care, and safety.
