Ash ‘Burr’ Vase

This vase is turned from green (wet) ash. The centre ‘burr’ is sliced very thin to encourage movement as it dried out naturally.

About the artist:
In his workshop in Cardiff, Karl makes unique lathe-turned and hand-carved sculptural forms. He tries to embrace the inherent qualities of the green (wet) wood by creating objects that not only highlight the natural beauty of the material but also celebrate its organic and unpredictable nature. By deliberately incising the wood with fine slices, sometimes paper-thin, the pieces invite movement from within. As the wood dries and breathes, it begins to shift - subtly twisting, warping, and waving in response to its environment, producing exciting and often unexpected results. Karl uses only ethically sourced and repurposed timber.
