When I found this old battered copy of Differential Diagnosis, I immediately liked it as an object. The content was very medical and frankly rather gross, unless you are a hardenend doctor or nurse and I am none of these. So I thought it would make a rather nice frame for some Gray's Anatomy illustrations, which are very beautiful and colourful. So here we go, Differential Diagnosis meets Gray's Anatomy.
Early 20th century medical book with Gray's Anatomy illustrations.
Dimensions: 18 x 26 x 6.5 cm.
About the artist:
Born and raised in Paris, with a publisher for a father, Stephane always loved books, for their content of course but also for what they look or even smell like. Not academically trained as an artist, he has always loved making things and learned mostly by trial and error. He moved to Hove recently and over the last 10 years, has been collecting old books (and sometimes new ones) that either look good to him or will tell a story, very often different from their original content. He aims to give some of those really old or unloved books a new life and a new purpose. He has a preference for illustrated books, some of the ones we very rarely open. He loves bringing the inside permanently outside, for everyone to see and enjoy. And when a book has nothing particular to say or show, apart from a good binding, he makes a sculpture that will hopefully turn out appealing tosome people...
