About the artist:
Valerie, has been creating carpets with a Locker Hook Needle for over 6 years. A heritage rug making tool, like a crochet hook with an eye, it pulls yarn through the loops of material as they are pulled up through canvas. Gaining inspiration from her view, the sunrise and moon set over Dovercourt Bay, Essex. The textures and colours of pre used, worn and faded velvet curtains, denim and fabrics. The childhood memories of wanting to travel across the skies and far off lands, are all swirling together in this vibrant carpet. Designed with symbolism, the branches full of loving hearts are spread across the heavens, the 7 yellow stars of angels, the reflective paths of the sun and moon are joined together, creating a stairway to the heavens. Roses scattered across the sea for love and loss, two lost 'Soles' finding their way from a turbulent sea, the lights of the ships and of course the Moon. The brightest and biggest thing in the night sky. All fabrics used are repurposed.
