About the artist:
Adele Gibson makes loose gestural oil paintings inspired by the natural world. She has lived in Brighton and Sussex for almost 40 years and holds an MA in Fine Art from Brighton University. She has have travelled widely for her work, including residencies in the High Arctic region, however, most recently she has been re-engaging with the local landscape. She enjoys walking along the coast absorbing the changing light on the sea. She wants her paintings to evoke an uplifting sense of being out-of-doors and the joy that spending time in nature can bring. She believes in the mental and physical benefits of being in natural spaces and aims to express this in her vibrant paintings. After close observation during her walks, she develops her paintings in oils in her studio so that they go beyond a pictorial representation. She wants to convey the spirit of a place, and her work is imbued with her thoughts, feelings, and love for both the subject and the painting process.
